About the Artists
Our vibrant and dynamic artists are from the Utopia region; a large remote area of Central Australia which, until recently, had no government funded art centre. As a result of their pioneering efforts, they have one of the strongest and richest art histories.

Honey Ant Dreaming
Ngkwarlerlanem and Arnkawenyerr Countries
The Dreaming story for the Yerramp (Honey Ant) belongs to Ngkwarlerlanem and Arnkawenyerr in northern Utopia, and connects to other stories in other countries.
Honey ants are a sweet bush food for the aboriginal people. When hunting for honey ants care is taken not to kill or hurt them (or not get bitten either!) so that they can go on and collect more honey. The sac on the back of the honey ant is pure natural honey.
Pictured right is Mavis Petyarre and daughter Jessie Bird Ngale looking for signs of honey ants beneath the mulga tree.
