My Country by Dulcie Pwerle Long (SOLD)

Country is more than just a place. For Delvine Petyarre, there is a deep physical, social and spiritual connection to her country; the land she identifies with through kinship system. Country provides all aspects of life.

Delvine's country is Alhalkere which lies in the heart of Central Australia's Utopia region. 

In the Dreamtime, there are two parts to the Pencil Yam story which is depicted in this painting.

Two different seeds were born that created two different species of yam; one called Atnwelarr which belongs to Delvine's country Alhalkere as well as Atnangkere country. The other seed is called Arlatyeye which belongs to Arnumarra country.

Dots in this painting symbolise the yam seed while patterns of lines represent the root system (the yams) beneath the ground.
